Have you ever looked at a still life of a vase of flowers and wondered how they would have looked like through your eyes instead of the artist’s brush?
Looking through the Louvre’s Instagram page (yes the Louvre has an Instagram account!) I stumbled upon a particular painting called “Bouquet de lis et de roses dans une corbeille posée sur une chiffonnière” by Antoine Berjon. It is simply a basquet of lilies, roses and other small flowers just sitting on a chest of drawers. The flowers look like they were individually selected for this very purpose and it is that homey feel that I admire the most. There is beauty in the act of handpicking individual flowers yourself which is why it is so easy to immerse yourself in flower arranging. It’s peaceful.
I will be attending a vintage posy workshop this week and I will be taking some inspiration from still life paintings. I will be sharing with all of you some tips and tricks of what I learn on the day so you can do your own small posy at home.
Until then, happy flower picking!
